DREAMSCAPE
Dreamscape is the result of a friendship between Marcel Salome and Claus Brusen. We met in May 2005 and immediately became friends. Together we had a passion for Art of the Imaginary; me as a painter and organizer of exhibitions, Marcel as a fine art (giclée) printer who also designs layouts for art books, art posters and other printed matter for artists. We started to talk about how we could benefit the Art of the Imaginary ”more than what is being done at the moment.” We both admired the books done by Paper Tiger back in the seventies and eighties as well as the annual American “Spectrum.”
In our opinion, however, the focus of these books was too broad. We felt the need to create something that didn’t include “illustration art” which is very much popular in America but mostly looked upon as kitsch in Europe and not taken seriously. We wanted something that was more into Fine Art of the Imaginary, Fantastic Figuration, Magic Realism, Super-Realism and Surrealism. We also felt that it was necessary to have something written about each of the artists in our book because these are the people behind their art.
The purpose of the book is to reach out to people who are interested in this kind of art, like galleries, museums and art collectors worldwide. To them we will send the book for free. The Dreamscape book can be seen as a commercial tool for the artist. By having a jury select the artists, we hope to reach a certain level of high quality in fine art.
SALBRU PUBLISH
After we decided to start the Dreamscape project we then began a new publishing company called “SalBru Publish” specializing in Art of the Imaginary. The name SalBru is a combination of out last names --- Salome and Brusen. With this new publishing company we want to keep the focus on good quality rather than making a lot of money. Beside the Dreamscape book, which will come out each year in September, we will publish two to four art books each year, exclusively in this genre of art. The next two books are already planned. Around Christmas we will finish a book about Daron Mouradian, an Armenian artist who can be seen in this first edition of the Dreamscape.
The next book, which should be finished by spring 2007, is the long awaited new book on Patrick Woodroffe called “Patrick Woodroffe’s World.” It is the first book in many years containing many new images produced since his last book “Hallelujah Anyway.”
Besides art books we will produce high quality limited editions, posters, calendars, cards, catalogues and other printed products for artists and galleries at reasonable prices. One of the goals of SalBru Publish is to create extra income for these artists. A lot of fine art painters are not so productive because of the time required to produce high quality paintings. The extra income will give these artists the opportunity to spend more time on their paintings without the pressure of producing a lot of paintings each year.
Salbru publish will also arrange large exhibitions, which will travel to more than one country. The next project is “Venus and the Female Intuition.” It will start in Denmark in May 2007 and then the exhibition will go to The Netherlands. “Venus and the Female Intuition”exhibition will have 35 to 40 participants from around the world. We will print a catalogue of high quality for this venue.
