Born in Liverpool on the North-West coast of England in 1955.Having been born with only 2 fingers and a thumb on each hand, I have always felt a certain sense of alienation in a world where the concept of hands with 5 fingers informs every aspect of daily life. I have drawn ‘weird pictures’ (as my parents and teachers called them) for as long as I can remember.I attended a high school that concentrated on scientific subjects and art was generally ignored and dismissed as trivial and worthless. After school, I worked in various office jobs, including a lengthy period with the National Coal Board. My drawings came to the attention of the outsider art magazine Raw Vision in 1998. Described by writer and publisher Joe Ryckzo as ‘Future Primitive’ (‘Paleolithique Moderne/Paleolithique Contemporaire’ in the original French), I feel my work occupies some kind of strange ‘no-man’s land’ between outsider art and Surrealism. I have shown my work in exhibitions and publications in the UK, USA, Europe, Canada and Japan. In 1995, I relocated to the South coast of England to bee even closer to the sea.
