Below is probably one of the best books on Surrealism and its really hard to get, its, "L 'UNIVERS SURREALISTE" by JOSE PIERRE, and its the 1987 May printing of Pierre's 1983 Editions Somogy, Paris. I treasure this book because it was written by an Authority on Surrealism, as well as by an Original Member of The Paris Surrealist Group of the late 20th Century led by ANDRE BRETON. For those of you who do not know who JOSE PIERRE is, he was active in The Paris Surrealist Group from the 1950s to the 1960s, even with helping organizing the major International Surrealist Exhibitions in 1959 ("Eros") and 1965 ("L'Ecart Absolu"). Also, one of Jose Pierre's best and brilliant of all masterpieces is the great erotic novel, "La Fontaine close, les livres secrets d'une secte politique inconnue (1988)". Also, last but not least, our dear friend and comrade in Surrealism, The Founder of The West Coast Surrealist Group of the 1960s, GREGG SIMPSON is in this book! Thats one of the main reasons why I had to add this to my collection of rare books!!!!!!!!

Below is one of my most prized treasures, it is an extremely rare book, "MELMOTH, The Wanderer" by Charles Robert Maturin, with preface by Andre Breton. This is the 1954 edition book of the 1820 novel by the great Maturin and it is officially considered by Breton to be the first surrealist novel ever written. I had a real hard time getting this gem, but it was well worth the effort. Once you are an obssessive collector there is nothing that will stop you! This gothic novel centers around the story of the character John Melmoth who sells his soul to the devil. It is such an amazing novel and considered to be one of the best gothic novels ever written, plus it bitterly attacks Roman Catholicism as well. H.P. Lovecraft also praised this book as "an enormous stride in the evolution of the horror tale". This 1954 edition is the book publication with the preface by Andre Breton praising this 1820 MASTERPIECE!!!

One thing that MUST be made PERFECTLY VERY CLEAR and that is absolutely BEYOND ARGUMENT, is that SURREALISM and REVOLUTION are one and the same! If anyone needs to really understand what Surrealism really is, they must understand the social conditions and the effects that is has on our lives: past, present and future. This is extremely important due to the fact that social conditions, environment and the REALITY we live in, has a MAJOR Impact and Influence on our minds and thought and behavior. That being said, if you are a surrealist, or if you claim to be a surrealist, then you must obviously be aware of Marxian Dialectics and the focus on the dynamics of the full range of the inner-workings of capitalism and modern day society: Identity/Difference, Interpentration of Opposites, Quantity/Quality and Contradiction. So now that you have this understanding, I welcome you all to take a look below at one of my most prized books in my collection, which is by ANGELA DAVIS, and its called, "WOMEN, CULTURE and POLITICS", and its a 1st edition which is also handsigned by Angela Davis as well. A VERY RARE BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
